Montessori Childrens Centre’s Duty of Care protects children from harm by focusing on their wellbeing.

Montessori Childrens Centre’s Duty of Care includes all aspects of the children’s wellbeing ensuring they are protected from harm by the following: respectful communication; effective staff teamwork, ratios and role modelling; child observations; planned transitions with flexibility based on the children’s needs; vigilant supervision and continuity of care; health and hygiene protection; and comprehensive policies and procedures regarding all aspects of Service Management.

Montessori Childrens Centre’s Top 10 Goals

  1. To provide children with the best quality of care in a warm, friendly, safe and stimulating home-like environment.

  5. To ensure all staff guide and support the children’s behaviour in a positive way using communication conveying respect and equality for all children.
  6. For Montessori Childrens Centre staff to develop positive relationships with parents, children and their associates.
  7. To provide age appropriate learning programs covering all early childhood development areas: cognitive, language, social, emotional, gross and fine motor skills.
  8. For staff to maintain up to date records for all children and use them to formulate both individual and group goals for program evaluation and future planning.
  9. To provide children with a wide range of opportunities and enriching experiences encouraging them to make choices and pursue their own interests at their own pace developing problem solving skills, achievable challenges, self-esteem, self discipline, self respect and respect for others within a positive environment.
  10. To provide a daily routine with continuity and order so children feel secure and confident in their understanding of direction. MONTESSORI CHILDRENS CENTRE staff approach their daily routine with flexibility without compromising their tasks or other staff members’ time management ensuring an efficient and effective flow throughout the day benefiting all children, staff and families at the service.

Behaviour management.

  1. Montessori identified 3 developmental levels of self-control in young children.

·      at 0-12 months the child is unable to control his will and the parent must be responsible for his safety.

·       at 1-5 years the child is able to exercise self-control but not all the time. He/she needs flexibility, understanding & positive guidance.

·       at 5+ the child can & usually does choose to control his behaviour.

  1. We believe that the most effective want to achieve socially appropriate behaviour is by consistent modeling of it.

  2. Positive behaviour is acknowledged with warmth & genuine appreciation not praise or reward. Children are given many opportunities to practice socially appropriate behaviour with Montessori’s grace & courtesy exercise.

Conflict resolution.

  1. This is done on an individual & respectful basis.

  2. Children are asked to identify inappropriate behaviour & reminded that we will not allow anyone to hurt them and we cannot allow them to hurt anyone either.

  3. Eye contact with the student is made & retained & strategies for regaining self-control discussed depending on age level of the child.
