Behaviour management.
-
Montessori
identified 3 developmental levels of self-control in young children.
·
at
0-12 months
the child is unable to control his will and the parent must be responsible for
his safety.
·
at
1-5 years the
child is able to exercise self-control but not all the time. He/she needs
flexibility, understanding & positive guidance.
·
at 5+ the
child can & usually does choose to control his behaviour.
-
We believe
that the most effective want to achieve socially appropriate behaviour is by
consistent modeling of it.
-
Positive
behaviour is acknowledged with warmth & genuine appreciation not praise
or reward. Children are given many opportunities to practice socially
appropriate behaviour with Montessori’s grace & courtesy exercise.
Conflict resolution.
-
This is done
on an individual & respectful basis.
-
Children are
asked to identify inappropriate behaviour & reminded that we will not
allow anyone to hurt them and we cannot allow them to hurt anyone either.
-
Eye contact
with the student is made & retained & strategies for regaining
self-control discussed depending on age level of the child.
