El Nido - Infant and Toddler

  • We hold this session every Monday  morning .

  • This program is designed for children aged between 6 months  and 2½ years and is held on Monday mornings from 9.00-11.00 a.m.

  • The playgroup sessions offer a routine of circle time, work time, snack time & music. During the work time the children choose activities of interest from the prepared indoor & outdoor environments.

  • Parents are encouraged to work with their children at his/her level, respecting their choices & movements between activities.

  • The teacher’s role is to stimulate the child’s’ natural love of learning through exploration & she will guide both parent & child in the use of the materials provided.

  • To enable these young children to develop concentration we work & move quietly at all times in the environments.

  • Montessori believed that young children are extremely sensitive & it is for this reason that the teacher never displays the use of a raised or harsh voice or sudden loud or jerking movements.

  • Parents are encouraged to adopt this manner of working with their children during the session.

  • The controlled movement activities which are such fun for young children all enable them to practice controlling these little bodies which have just mastered many new skills in movement & language.

  • Enrollment limited to 15 students with 1 staff.

    Transition programs.

  • This program is offered on Wednesday & Thursday mornings and afternoons & Friday mornings. Session times are  9.00a.m.-12.00p.m.  and 12.00p.m.-3:00p.m.

  • For children under 3 only morning sessions are available.

  • It is designed as a gentle introduction to pre-school life for children aged between 2 1/2 and 3 1/2 where the child may be apart from the caregiver for the first time.

  • The program is structured with an emphasis on children choosing & completing their own activities independently.

  • An inside work period is followed by outside play.

  • Music & movement are an important part of this program also.

  • Parent education &/ or orientation meetings are held & parents are encouraged to adopt Montessori practices with their children at home. Pre-school program.

   Pre-School programs.

  • This program is held daily and parents wishing to enroll their child must choose at least 2 full days.  Regular sessions are from 9.00a.m.-3.30p.m.

  • The centre is open from 7.30a.m. to 5.30p.m. for parents wishing to have their child cared  for out of normal session hours. This service is included in the full daily fee.

  • The pre-school program builds on the foundation of the toddler groups. Children begin working as soon as they arrive at the Centre, snack when they are hungry & assist in the clean up of the room before greeting/calendar circle & outside play.

  • A closing circle with music & movement activities followed by a formal farewell ends their day.

  • During their work period children choose from the 5 main Montessori classroom areas. They often begin in the practical life & sensorial areas where they refine their independent living skills using activities to sort & classify, as well as refining their fine motor skills with the activities of spooning, tongs & tweezers.

  • Teachers will introduce the language, mathematical & cultural materials to them as they show interest in these areas.

  • Montessori always adopts a concrete approach, i.e. sandpaper letters, before moving into more abstract areas like word building & reading.

  • The Montessori curriculum is rich, varied & stimulating & at the Centre staff choose a different focus study each term to enable children to explore areas in depth.

  • Children who stay for the lunch program assist in the preparation & serving of lunch.
